Landsvirkjun Power is the engineering, construction and foreign investment arm of Landsvirkjun (The National Power Company in Iceland). The purpose of Landsvirkjun Power is primarily consultancy in development of power schemes, and secondly, investment in such schemes outside of Iceland.

The Landsvirkjun Power staff has extensive experience covering all phases of planning, site investigations, design and construction of hydroelectric and geothermal power stations as well as transmission networks.

On 15 July 2011, Landsvirkjun Power and Verkis Consulting Engineers signed an agreement with Dariali Energy Ltd of Georgia on feasibility study, tender design and preparation of tender documents and detail design of the 109 MW Dariali hydroelectric project.

Landsvirkjun Power in Sisimiut - 4.11.2009

 

In October 2009 Landsvirkjun Power and the Icelandic contracting company Istak signed an agreement on assistance in the commissioning of a 15 MW hydro power project, including a 27 km transmission line, on the Western coast of Greenland. The powerstation will supply power to the municipality of Sisimuit and replace diesel generation. After three weeks of production, the project will be handed over to Nukissiorfiit, the utility of Greenland. Landsvirkjun Power will during the first year following the handover assist Nukissiorfiit in the daily operation, setting up operation manuals, establish a maintenance system etc.  According to the agreement Landsvirkjun Power will also run training courses for Nukissiorfiit's staff to be able to take full responsibility of the operation of the project.

Landsvirkjun Power will draw on the expertise of the employees of the Energy Division of Landsvirkjun for fulfilment of the agreement.

Drilling into magma at Krafla - 26.6.2009

Drilling of the first IDDP well at Krafla, Iceland, continued in March this year. Yesterday, the drill rig encountered molten rock at 2104 m depth. The drillstring got stuck but circulation of cold water through the drillstring has been maintained. Today, the drillstring is being pulled out and the situation is under full control. Similar incidents of drilling into magma have been met in another well at Krafla, and also in Hawaii. The Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP) team will study the situation in detail during the next few days and then decide on the continuation of the project. Lesa meira

Egill Juliusson - New employee - 18.6.2008

Egill Juliusson, a geothermal reservoir engineer, was hired by LV Power early june. He will work on both international and domestic geothermal projects. egill-juliusson

Egill received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iceland in 2003 and a Master's Degree from the Stanford University Geothermal Program in 2006. Since then he has worked as a geothermal reservoir engineer with the Iceland GeoSurvey (ÍSOR) and with Glitnir Bank as part of the Geothermal Industry Services Team.

Egill will be part of the Project Assessment Team of LV Power's Investment Division, although he will also work with the Engineering Division's Geothermal Team.
